Get value for money out of your wardrobe

Time to start thinking about your wardrobe as though it’s another great investment.

Getting the most value for money out of your wardrobe can be a challenge for many women and the key to it is thinking about clothes like they’re an investment.

It’s about knowing how to buy a versatile piece that will take you from desk to dinner. In other words, mixing and matching your clothes from office to party.

Here are my top tips that will save you all round:

It’s all about the jacket

An amazing jacket is amazing no matter the time of day.

A really well made, stylish blazer looks amazing paired with with suit pants and a white shirt and equally as good – if not better – with a pair of skinny jeans, a white tee and black heels.

If you invest in a great jacket, the rest of the outfit will fall into place.

Head into work looking like the ultimate girl boss and take a change of jeans in your bag.

When the scenery changes, throw on your party pants and you’re all set!

Ok, if it’s not all about the jacket, it’s all about the heels

An amazing pair of shoes can make an outfit. Don’t underestimate their power.

A pair of ankle length boots change the look of a simple black skirt and shirt instantly.

And of course a stand-out pair of heels go well with almost anything.

Make it work with make-up

Sometimes it’s hard to switch from ‘work mode’ to ‘social mode’.

The easiest trick is to change from work make-up to glam. It doesn’t even take a lot of effort. Add some bright red lipstick and up your eye game with a smoky look.

It’s an instant makeover and shouldn’t take more than five minutes in the bathroom mirror with a few things you can easily throw in your bag that morning.

Dress it up or down

Feel too formal in your work clothes to go to post-work drinks? Feel like your work clothes are too boring and corporate?

Whether you’re adding a few pieces to glam up your look or doing the opposite to tone it down, it’s just a matter of mixing and matching.

A sleeveless black dress can go from corporate to dinner date instantly with nothing more than a change of stockings and shoes.

Even just changing your hairstyle can take a look from desk to dinner instantly.

Accessorise

Still not feeling it? Grab a chunky necklace or some large earrings and you’ve instantly added personality to an otherwise vanilla work outfit.

It’s all about tapping into what makes you feel like enjoying yourself and letting your hair down – sometimes literally.

Once you’ve worked out what helps you switch off from your workday, it’s just a matter of planning ahead.
